December 17 Estate Tax Legislative Update

The U.S. House of Representatives has adjourned for 2009 without coming to terms with the U.S. Senate on the future of the estate tax for 2010. It appears that there will be no further action on the estate tax this year.

Until further congressional action, estates of taxpayers who pass away in 2010 will escape the federal estate tax. In addition, the generation-skipping transfer tax will also tentatively expire in 2010.
